2 Tankers Set Ablaze, Halted in Strait of Hormuz: IRGC

Date:

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said two non-compliant oil tankers were set ablaze and brought to a halt after hitting mines laid by the force’s naval unit in an unauthorized passage south of the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the IRGC said the incident occurred as its naval and aerospace forces continue monitoring regional developments and enforcing Iran’s control and management of the strategic waterway.

The statement said the IRGC Navy had warned that passage through the mined route is illegal and would result in violators’ assets being set ablaze. It added that if the US “mischief” continues, oil companies will have to pay a heavier price.

The IRGC also said its air defense forces have identified and destroyed the 54th MQ-9 drone belonging to the US military the previous night while monitoring the airspace over the Strait of Hormuz.

The statement also praised the Iranian people for their steadfastness, saying their continued presence in the streets for more than 230 nights has inspired oppressed nations around the world.
