Cousin of 9/11 Terrorist is Killed in the Homs Governate
On February 15th, 2014, near the village of Al-Zara (Homs Governate), the first cousin of United 93 Hijacker, Ziad al-Jarrah, was killed in a firefight against Syrian Security Forces. Dhiyya al-Jarrah, the Lebanese-born terrorist leader of the “Ziad al-Jarrah Battalion” – an offshoot of the “Abdullah Azzam Brigades” – was believed to have entered Syria through the Lebanese-border city of Tal Kalakh. The Syrian Security Forces discovered Dhiyya’s body after a violent skirmish commenced on the morning of February 15th. Upon discovering his body, Dhiyya’s identification card was confiscated and reviewed by Syrian Air Force Intelligence. The identification revealed that he was 28 years old and a citizen of Lebanon.
Not much was known about Dhiyya’s personal life, but one of his captured soldiers revealed his relation to Ziad al-Jarrah and his source of funding for his Jihad in Syria. Dhiyya was providing weapons to “Jund al-Sham” (Soldiers of the Levant”) fighting in the village of Al-Hosn. His duration in Syria is unknown; however, sources believe he entered Syria during the Syrian Arab Army’s siege of Al-Qusayr in 2013. Dhiyya was also believed to have had close ties with the Saudi terrorist, Majd al-Majd, before he died from kidney failure on January 4th, 2014 in the custody of the Lebanese Government.
