Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Nasser Kana’ani said that the next foreign ministers’ meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will be held on July 31 to discuss the Holy Quran desecration in Sweden and Denmark.
The spokesperson said on Tuesday the OIC will hold a virtual emergency meeting on Monday to discuss the recent desecration of the Holy Quran in some European countries.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian also expressed his gratitude towards the OIC Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha and the foreign ministers of Iran’s fellow Muslim countries for accommodating an earlier proposal forwarded by Iran and Iraq for the extraordinary meeting.
The insulting to the Muslim holy book in Sweden and Denmark has sparked an outrage among Muslim countries.
Since last year, the frequency of insults against Islam and its holy book has been on the rise in Europe. Several European countries have been playing host to such despicable acts on their soils over the past months, drawing far-and-wide condemnation from the world’s Muslim countries.
Tehran describes the sacrilegious move as a blatant insult to Islam and Muslims across the world, and cautions that some European countries are allowing extremist groups to spread hatred against Islamic values and sanctities.
