One woman died, 2 people were critically injured, and at least 84 were taken to hospitals after smoke filled a subway car in downtown Washington DC, a US official said.
“We don’t know yet the cause of the heavy smoke,” Richard Sarles, General Manager of the city’s Metro System said, Washington Post reported.
The incident has caused major disruptions on many of the system’s subway lines, according to the latest reports.
It happened around L’Enfant Plaza station around 3:30 p.m. Hundreds of people were forced to evacuate the station.
