Ayatollah Javadi Amoli: Public Bears Duty to Protect Islamic System, Truth Will Prevail

Qom — Grand Ayatollah Abdollah Javadi Amoli has stressed that all members of society bear responsibility for safeguarding the Islamic Republic, urging vigilance against complacency while reaffirming the Qur’an’s definite promise that truth will prevail over falsehood.

Hawzah News Agency- Speaking at his weekly ethics class on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, at the Grand Mosque of Qom, before a gathering of various segments of the public, Ayatollah Javadi Amoli congratulated the occasion of 13 Aban (National Day of Resistance in Iran) and honored the memory of the martyrs of that day. He offered prayers for the martyrs of the Islamic Revolution, particularly the martyrs of 13 Aban and those recently martyred, asking God to raise them alongside the martyrs of Karbala.

Qur’an Must Be the Axis of Science and Society

Referring to the words of Imam Ali (peace be upon him) regarding the characteristics of the friends of God, Ayatollah Javadi Amoli said the friends of God are those who are Qur’an-centered themselves and make society Qur’an-centered as well. He emphasized that the primary responsibility of seminary and university scholars is to rise with the Qur’an and place revealed teachings at the center of both knowledge and action.

Quoting Imam Ali — “Through them the Book is known and through it they know, and through them the Book rises and through it they rise” — he explained that through these friends of God, the Qur’an is recognized and understood, and through them the Qur’an rises in society.

The Grand Ayatollah underlined that if the Qur’an is to become the axis of knowledge and movement in society, both the seminary and the university bear fundamental responsibility, even though all members of society are responsible.

Qur’an Is a Book of Scientific Inquiry, Not Merely Recitation

Ayatollah Javadi Amoli stressed that the Qur’an is not merely a book for recitation and earning divine reward, but a book of scientific inquiry that teaches humanity about the nature of the universe, its Creator, and the foundations of the cosmic order. He noted that all particles of the universe are created on the basis of knowledge, calculation and measure, and nothing in this system exists without a cause and a scientific path.

He explained that humanity derives its sciences from the world and the order of creation, and that all human knowledge comes from the universe God has placed at humanity’s disposal — making the universe itself a divine book.

The Grand Ayatollah urged scholars and the academic community to develop a deeper connection with the Qur’an, suggesting that everyone adopt a regular Qur’an study program, discussing the general outlines of the verses and consulting commentaries when deeper understanding is needed.

Referring to the multi-generational effort behind the Tafsir Tasnim commentary, he noted that the work is the product of some forty years of effort and four generations of scholars in the seminary — not the work of a single individual. Despite this, he said, what has been written is but a drop from the ocean of the Holy Qur’an; what matters most is that everyone be a reader and researcher of the Qur’an.

Victory of Truth Is a Definitive Divine Promise

Addressing the divine tradition of the confrontation between truth and falsehood, Ayatollah Javadi Amoli said the Qur’an teaches in all cases — past and present — that truth is victorious, and it is impossible for falsehood to rise against truth and ultimately prevail. Citing the verse “that He may establish the truth and nullify falsehood,” he described this as a universal principle and a verdict of the order of creation.

Referring to enemy attacks and the martyrdom of leaders, scientists, and groups of people and Basij members — particularly the youth of Minab School— he acknowledged that foreign powers have attacked and inflicted losses, martyring dear ones. However, he warned against neglecting the divine promise, stating that the defeat of the United States and Israel is certain. The Qur’an tells the people of truth not to worry, he said — wherever there is a battle between truth and falsehood, truth prevails. This, he stressed, is not merely a report of the unseen but a report of the tradition and order God has established in the universe.

The Grand Ayatollah emphasized that the Qur’an’s insistence on these matters is so that the community of faith knows it must not fall into fear or doubt in the struggle between truth and falsehood. The victory of truth is a definitive divine promise, and the success of Islam and Muslims is certain.

Islam Is a Religion That Cultivates Chivalry and Courage

Ayatollah Javadi Amoli noted that one of the official teachings of Islam is the cultivation of chivalry, combativeness and courage, describing Islam as a religion that trains courageous and chivalrous human beings.

Citing narrations from Imam Baqir and Imam Sadiq (peace be upon them) regarding Imam Ali’s conduct in defending the land and confronting aggressors, he said these narrations are not about ordinary prayer rulings but about standing firm against an aggressor who attacks one’s soil and homeland. He stated that the aggressors — America and Israel — who have violated the homeland must be confronted.

Vigilance in the Field of Defense

Explaining the necessity of vigilance in defense, Ayatollah Javadi Amoli cited Imam Ali’s letter to warriors: “Do not taste sleep except in small amounts or as one rinses the mouth” — meaning a warrior must not allow even a small amount of sleep, just as one who is fasting rinses his mouth but is careful not to swallow, and must avoid the sleep of negligence while guarding his position, always maintaining vigilance.

He stressed that this responsibility is not limited to military forces and officials: “We are all responsible, and each of us has a duty. For the preservation of this system — in the ethics of society, the economy, meeting needs, and providing work for laborers — we are all responsible.”

Ayatollah Javadi Amoli expressed hope that the Islamic system, through the blessings of the Qur’an and the Ahl al-Bayt, would be handed over in righteousness to the blessed presence of the Imam of the Age (may God hasten his reappearance), and that the enmity of enemies would end in humiliation and failure.

In closing, he prayed for the dignity and honor of society and those present, asking God to grant everyone Qur’anic glory, majesty and splendor, and to raise the martyrs of the Revolution and the defenders of Islam alongside the martyrs of Karbala.
