A group of seminary students at Al-Qaim Seminary in Tanga, Tanzania, have been formally invested with the turban after completing their preliminary religious studies, marking the start of a new phase of service to the faith and the community.

Hawzah News Agency- The ceremony, held Sunday as part of the institution’s 14th graduation ceremony, saw students who completed their introductory seminary coursework don clerical robes and turbans in recognition of their academic and religious milestone. The center operates under the Bilal Muslim Mission of Tanzania’s Tanga branch.

The turbaning symbolizes the beginning of a new stage in the students’ path of service to religion and society—one that places heavy responsibility on their shoulders for spreading religious knowledge, safeguarding Islamic values and ethics, and guiding believers according to Islamic teachings.

In remarks at the ceremony, Sheikh Jallaleh, a senior Muslim leader in Tanzania, congratulated the graduates on reaching this academic and spiritual stage and stressed the need to adhere to five fundamental principles he described as among the most important qualities every religious scholar and seeker of knowledge must uphold in daily life.

The five principles are: performing prayers at their earliest time, devotion to night prayers, continuous recitation of the Holy Quran, possessing good character, and adhering to truthfulness and trustworthiness in word and deed.

Sheikh Jalaleh noted that these principles are key pillars that help a religious scholar properly cultivate their spiritual, ethical, and behavioral character. He stressed that religious knowledge must not remain merely at the level of learning and theoretical discussion, but must manifest in action, behavior, and how one interacts with others.

He reminded the graduates that a religious scholar’s responsibility is not limited to acquiring knowledge and learning religious teachings, but also includes acting on what they have learned, conveying it to others, and serving as a worthy role model in society.

“Good character, truthfulness, and trustworthiness are inseparable from religious knowledge,” Sheikh Jalaleh said in conclusion, “because when a religious scholar possesses moral virtues, they can have a positive and constructive impact on society and win people’s trust and attention through their worthy conduct and character.”
