A powerful explosion rocked the Al-Jalaa military camp, controlled by Saudi-backed forces on Sunday in the Salah al-Din area of Al-Buraiqeh district, Aden province, southern Yemen.
A local source familiar with the matter said in the city confirmed that the blast struck one of the camp’s large warehouses. The nature of the explosion and the warehouse’s contents remain unknown, although the source suggested it may have stored military equipment and supplies belonging to Saudi forces.
The source speculated that the warehouse had been targeted by a missile. Sanaa forces have not claimed responsibility for the incident so far, and the extent of the resulting human and material losses remains unknown.
The source added that ambulances rushed to the site of the explosion, amid a widespread security and military alert by Saudi-backed forces in the area surrounding the camp.
Residents of Aden had previously called for Saudi military camps and armed formations to be removed from residential neighborhoods and for Aden International Airport not to be used for military purposes.
