Oil Storage Tanks Catch Fire in Texas amid Series of Mysterious US Energy Sector Incidents

Date:

The Abilene Fire Department said it received a mutual-aid call at 9:04 am reporting that two tank batteries near mile marker 266 of Interstate 20 were engulfed in flames. Several volunteer fire departments joined the response, while Abilene dispatched Engine 5, Brush 5, Ladder 5 and Hazmat 5 units to the scene, with a battalion chief serving as incident commander.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, and investigations are underway.

Preliminary estimates put the damage at around $1 million, although the figure could rise following a full assessment.

The ownership of the storage tanks has not been established, but they are believed to be associated with one of the oil fields in the area.
